The 42 km du Mont-Blanc is the mountain marathon of the Marathon du Mont-Blanc event, a loop starting and finishing in Chamonix. It follows the balcony trails above the Arve valley, facing the glaciers and spires of the Mont Blanc massif, with around 2,540 m of ascent. The relief shows the contrast between the valley floor, where the start and finish lie, and the slopes rising towards the Aiguilles Rouges. Shorter and less demanding than the 90 km, it is raced in late June.
