Gruyère Trail: the route
Every July the Gruyère Trail Charmey starts from the Charmey sports centre in the Jogne valley for loops through the Fribourg Prealps. The 54K (54 km, about 3,800 m of climbing) sets off at dawn and strings together ridges, alpine pastures and forests around Charmey; the 36K (36 km, about 2,500 m) starts two hours later on a shorter loop. Above the village, the Vounetse area is one of the spots where spectators gather to cheer the runners on before the return to Charmey. The race route relief map shows the tight folds of the Prealps, the pasture valleys and the limestone ridges above the Gruyère region; your line forms a clean loop around Charmey. A finisher keepsake for locals and visitors alike, and a gift for trail runners who know these paths. The base carries the name, finishing time and date.
